Archive, Research & Photograph restoration Services

Undertaking hands-on archive projects and making collections accessible is incredible rewarding and worthwhile. I offer archive and research services for families, academics, artists and small organisations.

Through my heritage work as a Curator and Collections Manager at the Museum of Cambridge and the David Parr House I have experience of creating a variety of institutional archives for funded projects. More recently I have been working on private archive collections for families. Whatever your collection, I offer guidance and can appraise, catalogue and preserve your media to conservation standards.

Tech savvy, I can digitise your collection and create databases and online resources according to your needs, – ensuring the longevity and accessibility of your archive. I also offer training so that you are confident to maintain the collection or archive moving forward.

Using my design skills I can layout your archive in a digital portfolio, photo book – even create a related pattern! Working with my trusted partner production company I can even have elements of your collection printed onto high quality homeware and clothing.

George Macdonald Archive

Recent work was on the private family archive of the scientist and malariologist, George Macdonald (1903-1967), who was Professor of Tropical Hygiene at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.

The archive comprised of the over 300 letters, telegrams and airgraphs sent by George to his wife, Mary, during the WW2. These were catalogued, numbered, scanned and placed into conservation standard files. The family research, related documents and photographs were organised and the digitised versions were collated into an online notebook that was accessible for further research and the wider family to enjoy. Training was given to ensure that new research could easily be added and a the archive maintained for future generations.

Historical & Genealogical Research

Are you interested in finding out more about your family, your house or the local area?

I’ve worked on social history collections and conducted research for museum collections, publications and exhibitions on a wide variety of subject areas.

With over 14 years experience on Ancestry I have compiled family trees for museum research and private clients.

Photographic restoration & Colourisation

Examples of the photographic restorations from a current project working with Edwardian glass plate images. From scanning and repairing the images I create faithful, sharp, high quality  black and white images. I’ve then conducted research into Edwardian clothing to create full colour versions using Photoshop. Although AI can do some of the work, each image is carefully worked on with an artists hand to create nuanced and realistic colour versions that reflect the fashions of the Edwardian Era.
